| Video Description *correction: you need to put the JkDefragScreenSaver.exe also in windows folder too for the screen saver. http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ Sorry about the audio quality. Mic Boost was on. I lowered the volume after recording but it's still very blown. Also in the scheduled task settings, you can make it stop defragging by checking the box "stop the task if computer ceases to be idle". Forgot to mention it. This defragments pagingfiles / "registry hives" http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/PageDefrag.mspx If you read on the jkdefrag page it tells you how to use tweakUI to change the default defrag program Other free defraggers http://ultradefrag.sourceforge.net/ http://www.dirms.com/ |

JigglesJingle: Cool, you rule!! , I hope you make more videos soonercssniper06: I love Diskeeper, its the best! It keeps all my drives clean and up to speed. The others are good.
velocity37: Indeed. Diskeeper does the same thing (defrag on idle), in addition, it allows you to tweak many other filesystem settings that can speed up disk access.
cssniper06: Correct, it allows you to make settings like Screen saver, Idle, Bootime Defrags, Automated Defrags, etc. I set it on Screen saver Defrag, and Automated Defrag so it defrags at nights, and every now and ten I set a bootime defrag and keeps my machine running clean and fast.
mUsr001: lol i think your mike is too close to the mouth because your voice kind of has "distortion"
ninjamurai: wow thanks jimmy, ill surely use jkdefrag in the future
SourNotHardcore: Dude you are so helpfull. You my friend, are going to heaven.
rlw3ninja: Thanks you!! My computers been slow lately and thats just what I need
nitefalcon: wait can you elaborate why you wouldnt use windows built in defrag? i mean its there why not just use it instead of downloading other programs?
jimmyrcom: slower, 1 pass not multipass, less options, no screensaver options, from what I remember used to have issues of resetting itself too wasting a bunch of time reanalyzing the disk again.
janettsue: Jimmy do you have a video on connections? Like what is the difference between local area and internet connections. Mostly I am interested in wireless connections. I have WLAN and Linksys and problems.
jimmyrcom: what exactly is the problem. I would feel stupid answering you with "one network is local/home the other is the internet"
janettsue: Thanks anyway. My wireless works everywhere I go but not at home. I have something set up wrong. I guess I will have to go back online with Linksys help. Love your videos. I very much want to learn. There is just so much to learn. Thanks for all you do to help us out.
cassiuskilla: Thanks man! Your videos are always informational and helpful.
TGseason10: Thanks Jimmy!
I though that the only the defragger there was was the one that came with Windows!
ReedJaguar: I use IObit SmartDefrag, It's still BETA but it works fine on my PC...
fojerbachas: i`m using Diskeeper - does really nice job.
BigMichaelD: Top user. Great and informative vids.
slennzer: Re: Readyboost feature For XP
User: slennzer
Hey Jimmy, is the READYBOOST feature in Windows vista basically what I demonstrated within my video using windows XP or is it something completely different? My yt video ID is: TvzxuWpHWNU.
If you have the time please check my video out or if anyone else knows the answer to my question please leave a comment on my user. Thanks in advance!
mousers21: this would be great if I could easily deploy this to an enterprise network. I guess I could figure a way to do it, but it would be a little bit of work.
aerojohn: this is great jimmy
it really helps
beanedave: i love your speaking voice its so geez-sexy
jk lol
anyway.. ur videos are very imformative
ddyerfamily: Awesome Thanks Again !
You Rock !
wanderingsociologist: the windows vista defrag program is, single handedly the worst program in computer history. no progress bar, just a message saying. "this may take minutes to hours"
its not just bad programming, its bad english
xXxDANMANxXx: ur vids rock man keep em up!! theyre sooo useful!!
robtran: Thanks, as always, for the incredibly useful information!
momodragon: thx you rock very damn usfull yuo have a cool voice !! :)
smalldude55: wuts up with the green, black, yellow and gray on the jkdfrag thing?
Tophillious: Pretty gnarly. Nice new site design too btw.
ardur: Make love to me Jimmy....jk jk. Nice vid as usual. =D
leodime: Using it right now. And loving it. Had it running for about 10 minutes and it's already at 13%. Hopefully this will speed up my sh1t-box.
psnchz: As always Jimmy a mighty fine and informative video.
jdthegameboy: i wish you would have went further into details about why jk is better than windows
jimmyrcom: I did by describing all of jkdefrag's features.
jdthegameboy: oh OK thanks you might wanna make a comparison list in the description cause i see you get this question alot
Itcreeps: Very cool! I'm glad there's someone like you on YouTube making useful tutorials and teaching people!!
warrioramin: dude,if there was anything more i can do than just subscribe,i would have probably done it!
Very clear and informative!
and i am going to start using it!
thanks to you.
hentajus: wow :) thx jimmy you rule... defragment screensaver... coooooooooool! ... what next? killer whales? :D love the program thanks again this vid gets 5/5
SpookyFan: Ashampoo's defrag has the handy feature of defragging on the fly no matter how short a period it's idle. This way it doesn't require you to leave the pc on but unused for extended periods but works while you read an article or watch a youtube video. DIRMS defragger (Do It Right Microsoft) also does this.
jack2452: how can you find the middle of A VID. PLZ TELL ME
arneanka74: Thank you for doing all this philiantropic work here on YouTube. It really helps me with my computer. The massive amount of knowledge I've learnt from you have relly helpt me out more than once...
scorpio209: ive been wanting a auto defrag for a while. thx :D
ricedie: JkDefrag is my preferred Defragmentation program, although I load up a bootable version of Windows XP (WinPE Plus) and run defrag. As I think this way it can defrag ALL the files and It's a good idea to delete swap file temp and all the rubbish on your PC
checkmic78: thanx again, jimmy. nice1. 5*again
pspaddict01: i do believe hes done it again 5/5
jpeg1991: jimmy you rule once again! windows defragmenters been pissing me off, hogging all the memory and taking sooooo long. thankys for this jimmy! also loving the new mp3 an stuff search! =D
preschmanager: I was looking for a defrag too. and had just restarted windows defrag after a bluescreen when i seen this vid. thanks Jimmy. I need to defrag as i am installing a partition of ubuntu.
felix290492: Awesome video Jimmy. I've been using JkDefrag for a while now, i've also tried defraggler but it eats up around 100mb of memory while defragging where as Jkdefrag is only using up around 40mb.
Myztiks: Hey, i was just wondering which video of yours mentioned the delphi program that shows you your largest files on your harddrive...
bachura: I liked the audio this way :)
Thanks for the vid
BetonamuYarou: Another brilliant tutorial. Thx for that.
Meddlmoe: the audio is different, and the quality is not top, but you sound alot more motivating than usual. this may be because you actually are more enthusiastic, but it might also be caused by the settings.
nice video
mfg moe
moebob24: if you would learn how to read then you would know the reason for the different audio. I am sick if people that post comments without reading first.
Makes you look like an idiot.
Meddlmoe: f>ck off! this was a coment ON him mentioning the audio. if YOU would be able to read context, then you should be able to realize, that the quality was not my main point, but the enthusiasm.
by the way: if you have any problem with my grammar or spelling, then i will explain it to you in german...
mfg moe
Ghakimx: Task for the info man, but look at the number of views you have, kinda short of a few thousands huh?
11moonelf: yes, he's an awesome teacher! it was recently posted so I'm sure many others will find this video soon. (O:
Danteezy: y dont ppl use the windows xp disk defragmenter in system tools??
EddyC30: Because it sucks for people who know enough about computers. Might be fine for you but it's horrible for others.
11moonelf: thanks for explaining defragmenting. never knew what my computer was doing. your lessons are very helpful - subscribed recently. appreciate the time you take to teach us!
Danteezy: i dont use it i jus wanted 2 kno y ppl didnt lol
r3za89: awesome
great teaching+great software although it doesbt look good but it's great
dovad16: Your endorsement of JKDefrag means a lot to me. I have it on my computer but didn't know it was that good. thanks.
partlink1: nice vid. but how well is it compared to the defragmenter that comes with windows?
roger62383: i was wondering the same thing!
schmalz2: He mentions it at the end of the video.
SRUPlatinum: I thought this would be a simple defrag tutorial. but I'm throughly impressed. I hadn't heard of jkDefrag. How does it compare to AusLogics?
ktigger34: hey thx jimmy... i just finished Defraging i can really see a difference in speed :)
AkoyPinoy2: I just did what you did and found out what's wrong. You're suppose to move/copy the two screensaver program on the windows folder, both the .scr and the .exe.
Moltinsp: you sound cooler with your mic like that
Unerly: Are you running Windows 99 or XP? :$
CptnMarc: hes prob xp but using best performance mode in computer properties
sensfan23: Xp, he is justing using Windows Classic theme.
MyGamecubeRoks: 1 tip, NEVER USE MIC BOOST!!!!!!!!!
ddrfreakmax400: jkdefrag is alot better then the windows gives the defragment.
dfrusdn: Nice but dont you have defrag on XP?
Lueseiseki: It's not as good, and you can't run it when you're idle and stuff like that.
dfrusdn: Oh I see you have to restart every time and it doesn't do it when the computer is idle
nikolashred123: very good job.
thanks for the tutorial!!!
legoflamb: WOW I thought this one was going to be stupid and wasn't going to watch, but of course, there is know way that is possible, you're Jimmy Ruska. I'd have to say, this is, the most useful for me, of any other instructional video.
mxcnprd10: thanks for all the tutorials, there always helpfull
guest2424: Wow, a USEFUL screensaver. anyone with withdows that uses any other screensaver, is a fool. Thanks!
Wiking91: Think he's running XP but with the 98 skin. Anyways. Thanks for the tutorials, they are really helpfull=)
Gimmeabreakman: I have a mac but this made me look into it.
RadicalComedy: You really do a great job with these tutorials. Some company needs to hire you to do this. If I get it, you are quite talented. Thanks for doing these videos. ~Raven
RadicalComedy: Hey, do you ever recommend software? I want to buy an really good audio editor to remove noise and also get an voice changer, where I can change voice tones in my videos but I dont want to spend more than 200...any ideas? ~Raven
empiremonkey: Hey. Sorry. I accidentally hit negative rating on your comment. I am a dummy. I really meant to tell you to download the free opensource program AUDACITY and try that! It is nice.
markus12343: I deliberately hit positive... so everything is fine now. :)
RadicalComedy: markus12343....right on! ~Raven
RadicalComedy: empiremonkey, thank you. I will check it out. ~Raven
einc70: Goldwave is a shareware & has no time limit... it's a good one
RadicalComedy: einc70, thank you! Wow, 2 recommendations...thank you! I will look into it. ~Raven
kevinsunaryadi: well jimmy i think u forgot to mention that we need to enable the "run only when login" because if ur not, they want some password or something...
nice defrag way tho ^^
redzepeda: Hey Jimmy, just a quick question: What's that little red figure to the left of the "More Tutorials..." text at the bottom of the video? It looks like an egg or a frog
5azerty5: I think its just a logo , kinda egg or something
Btw , thnx Jimmy for this gr8 tutorial :)
5azerty5: Jimmy?
That JKdefrag is only for Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista. And my pc is running on Windows ME..
Got another version for that?
1983AK: another excellent tip!!!
*****
thatuti: cant you just use the windows drive defragment?
I mean "my computer" - "defrag"
or
"mu computer" - "propoties" - (and then there are 2 check boxes and you check the 1st box)
(sorry for my spelling)
thecool1168: that is what I do. but I start it with in my start menu.
ForFun808: awesome tutorial, now I can defrag without remember to.
Kkrazy92: This actually has my computer starting up faster. Thanks man never knew files did such crazy things.
empiremonkey: Cool. I hit him up with another 'thumbs up' to make up for my earlier lack of coordination.
ic300x: a defraging screen saver? = genius
Alxjeffs: why was your Audio quality so shitty on this vid
lbrtdy: ya, its unlike all ur other vids. u sick ? :S
Alxjeffs: oh why did everyone mark my comment negative cause i said shitty? it was just a question.
familyolais: how come your quality is so good i have your settings in camstudio but mine is choppy?
lbrtdy: are u rec. the whole screen or just a part? its blurry when u upload to youtube when u do full screen .
iam2strong: You've used it for several years? Why recommend now? I wish I had this awesome program earlier.
jlumley: jimmyr is the best thing on utube hands down
busha5a5a5: hehe seeeems cool... downloading it right now...
weggles: This is so much faster than the Windows defragger, and the screensaver? So convenient :D. nice find.
flajhead: Thanks, my computer needed a good defrag!
wedapeepole: hey jimmyr i got a question how can i get rid of a backdoor virus. my F_PROT antivirus says that its not disinfectable . can you help?
serenityff: I thought Vista is basically defraging your PC while it's in idle.
serenityff: AusLogic Disk Defrag is very good too. It works well with XP and Vista.
serenityff: When you are not using your computer.
adopsydelic: jimmyrcom: New microphone? o.0 the old one was better tho.. :/
lbrtdy: no read the description :P. he has mic boost on and its bogus.
adopsydelic: oh.. sorry. Didnt see that.. Sorry
Dudewithwings: This is very interesting and I do like the programs ability to defrangment as a screen saver. However is it not easier to just use the disk defragment program you already have set in your system tools file?
toastface5: wow, a defragging screensaver?!?!?!?!? COOL!!!
holywaterx: jimmy a little bit of topic here
i love the music from commercials and movie trailers, like the one from "Jumper" for example, the companies who provide music for such movies do not sell any of their music, they do however allow you to listen to it streaming from their site, is there anyway to rip the streaming music of their site so i can listen to it on my pm3 player later? thanx
oakaleafy: you have to put both of the screen saver files to have settings
brooklynbaba: Great defrag recommendations. Very well done and to the point. I like your stylo brova!
Yvon
thismyaddress: Jimmy,
How do you get that picture at the top of your channel and above the video info??
microsoft2008: it's just a question. no need to criticize
Weirdosport: Another great tutorial, if only my virus scan would run when i'm idle...
thelasthallow: why not just use the defragger that comes with XP?
butters44444: Cause that one sucks and is VERY slow.
Devourer09: Doesn't NTFS do a good job about not defragmenting? I thought defragging was mostly a FAT thing.
applep0w223: u always sound tiered when u do this wat time do u record?
One of the few tuts i actually did nice vid
janlukky: well pretty good u know where to find those roms?
taemo619: Hey Jimmy...
One more thing...
Can you try WinASO??
I know it also defrags...
AnonimatiumStrikesBk: you must made a mistake cuz the screensaver does have the settings when you click it
Darkzezimazz: Great video, didn't know you could defrag when your computer was idle.
nasherboy112: dude do you have a hard te breathing wen u breath in you sound really weard
Schmaat: thx man! nothing left to say! :)
greenpete: Your tutorials are excellent but I would question if this is a good idea as running a defrag' of your drive increases wear on that drive. Would you not be better running it less often.. a compromise between performance and wear and tear on your machine?
Better still don't use Microshaft Windblows! Use Linux instead, it doesn't fragment anywhere near as badly as MS, it doesn't have a registry that screws up all the time either, and it's a FREE OS!
jimmyrcom: Defragmenting actually decreases "wear" in that the disk has to do much less seeks. As for linux, all good programmers use windows and linux or dualboot. I'm sick of hearing that retarded argument to all windows videos. Most of the people that zealously flaunt linux don't even use it.
greenpete: Mmm, still not too sure about the defraging being good if you do it continuously, but I take your point about retards and Linux (I do use it as my main OS but hypocritically I do dual boot!), I think I sometimes I am the retard!
jimmyrcom: Your hard drive does not have a health meter, where the more you use it the more it gets closer to "fail". Defragment decreases it's workload by making it do much less work everytime programs read or write your drive.
greenpete: "where the more you use it the more it gets closer to fail"
Exactly my point, and defraging is such use, that it wouldn't ordinarily be doing, so it's a trade off. Speed of the machine against the life of it, what ever life that may be, as you say, you don't know.
Anyway, as I said, I like your work here and I don't want to piss you off, in fact I thank you for your contributions. So I think we will have to agree to disagree? ;-)
jimmyrcom: Google search "Failure Trends in a Large Disk Drive Population". It's not my opinion, it's google's after 100,000 drives tested. Use does not play a huge part in the drives life.
greenpete: Ok, you got me! I have learned something here, thank you!
billmetzner: ok jkDefrag is now my screen saver!! thanks alot!
rmfitness: hi jimmy in one your videos you briefly mentioned youtube publisher i think you said, which allows autoplay, banners and links please could you go into more detail on how this is done. thank you
jimmyrcom: they invite you if you have bunch of subscribers
rmfitness: o lol no wonder i couldnt work it out, thanks
NicolauDosSantos: Jimmy, just to let you know.
After dragging the jkdefragscreensaver application and screen saver to my c:\windows, I was able to configure it by clicking "settings".
I wanted to show you a screenshot of the interface, but i guess we cannot send attachments to each other through youtube email.
Take care,
Nicolau
jimmyrcom: I know, check the description. I forgot to include the other file to the windows folder.
curemymind: cool i should put this in my live xp cd:D...
aarononelv: awesome. very clear explainations. thank you JimmyR.
leitermann: This is great, very clear and lively explanation too. Do you do a podcast or anything like that? I'd subscribe.
limbow3: Would this work for normal WinXP Defragmenter?
Darkmysterio23: Control Panel\Administrative Tools/task scheduler on vista hope that helps ya
wubanger: Hey, that's a really handy tool.. I'm going to use it. thanx jimmy
anoninator121: wear your hard drive out amirite?
anoninator121: two 60gb hard drives bought on the same day running in two different machines in the same room, one with diskeeper the other without.
one lasted 4 years, the other lasted 6 years.
can you guess which one was which?
if you scan your system for fragmentation every time it's idle, you cause extra heat, extra stress, extra wear and tear. so either you don't know what you're talking about or you haven't had a computer long enough to put it to the test. lern 2 computers
anoninator121: the one that lasted 6 years was a desktop, 4 years was a server. the server had cooling fans on the drives. neither of the drives were filled, and I defragged the desktop regularly (once a month).
In b4 "omg who keepz a computar for moar than 4 yrs anyway faggit"
jimmyrcom: You fail at life, and everything. Please don't act like an authority when your spelling is worth balls. Google, "google hard drive tests".
jimmyrcom: most likely installed when I installed the demo of unreal 3.
hozelda: I saw some of your other videos.
You are going to have a great career with Linux. Just don't wait until everyone is using it and it's as simple to use as a wristwatch.
Alas777: i cant figure out how to use the command stuff. i tryied it on the command prompt but it didnt work
kond0g: MAke a shortcut click properties and then put it at the end of the line where it says its located and boom!
Alas777: kk thanks but its too late now i downloaded a GUI for it, so much better!
J2897: For some reason I feel that Perfect Disk does a better job than O&O... Just seems to feel better after the Perfect Disk defrag. Only problem I have is that Perfect Disk doesn't have the option to allow you to defrag by 'Last Accessed' like O&O. I gotta' try that JK out now after watching this. Thanks again for another great tut'.
J2897: Well, after reading up on JkDefrag, I learned that the optimization (sort by last access time) only works as expected if you do not use programs that scan all files on disk (such as virus scanners and backup programs), causing Windows to update all the last access times.
... My bad. No wonder O&O didn't seem as good.
JkDefrag CMD options look awesome.
WilliamBonneau: I just Re-formatted my Harddrive, do you think its worth Defraging or would I just be wasting time?
hempygreen: I love this channel!! Love this program!!! Cant stand windows defrag. Thanks for the tips!
Hmn30: hey, what do you guys think of the Auslogics Defrag? i think its pretty good and its fast.
kezamizogabi: try o&o 10 and pm me for the serial!
archadia17: If I defragment my hard drive, will it delete anything important? Like what I need to run my computer or any programs?
theSCgosu: No, it doesn't delete anything.
Hewson60: Hi!
Do you recommend to defrag on every startup?
Jordache22222: good job with these tutorials!
lacvien: i think defraggler is another program that can work too.
tyrantanX: that's great, but you didn't have to post that 4 consecutive times... o.o
lacvien: o ooops didnt notice dat, must have pres de button too many times.
lacvien: i think defraggler is another program that can work too.
lacvien: i think defraggler is another program that can work too.
lacvien: i think defraggler is another program that can work too.
ebm55555: Thank you
i love how you show the general public how do care for their computer
thanks again and you cant beat free versions =)
jonathansp: you can just drag jkdefrag into scheduled tasks and then go on properties and do whatever.
haloswift: cool imma use this for sure ;)
tyrantanX: I'll be sure to defrag when idle! I always do something off the pc for a long time, anyway; it's great that i can now do something productive at the same time while doing nothing. =D thanks a million!
Reinova: Commenting on videos help? I don't think so. Do you see the shit they write as comments these days?
jimmyrcom: puts me on most commented list which exposes my vids to more people. If people would answer each others questions it would be even more useful.
Reinova: It takes a lot of comments (and garbage) to get to be most commented, and I don't think the it is worth the stress.
Nice video BTW
Pentium965: I use AusLogics Disk Defrag mainly becasue it was free and allowed for more settings then the Windows Version. Plus they also provide a registry defrag witch was kinda cool
ocg247: I see you didnt really mention anyting about DISKKEEPER?
What are your views on it as i thought that title was one of the best.
dellaseeg: good man, thanks for the new info i never knew.
LanceTheBlueKnight: Here's a question- having your computer defrag itself all the time is obviously gonna make your computer much faster and everything... but isn't it a pain in the ass when every time you go eat something your computer is defragging itself? But then again, the program mentioned in the video must be less of a hassle than the default windows defrag.
Stopping in the middle of a defrag doesn't do anything negativee, does it? I might have to try this.
Tambu1415: Thanks Jimmy! Another great tutorial!
Only one "problem"... I made the task and had it all set up, only to find Microsoft already made a task to defrag the hard drive after 3 minutes of inactivity. Oh well! Guess they have Vista covered, but this is great for XP users!
JosephMelia: Auslogics Defrag is fast free and dependable.
DataX2: thx for this info jimmy
i have been useing Diskeeper for long time but this is so simple so i have downloaded and it is very good.
admir2323: Hello, can i please se your face. you sound cute , i love "nerdy" smart boys
Phoenix110189: thx, this is the best defrag tool ive come across in a long time!
andrie07: u r the best... thanks to share..
mitchipr: "and I could set the settings"
"I guess it doesn't have settings"
lol
thanks for the vid, 5 star!
OGTripleTriple: That is freaking awesome, thanks bro keep it up.
kaosboy13: It's a little different in XP, but it still works. Never knew I could just cut and paste straight into the Windows folder to make an instant screen saver option.
captainforeskin: how often should I defrag my comp?
limdul: Not too often. Obsessive compulsive defragging will wear down your HDD physically since it shuffles a lot of data around - this will, in time, slow down your computer more than speed it up, especially since NTFS is pretty fragmentation-resistant.
I'd recommend defragging, I don't know, maybe once a week?
JkDefrag really is the nicest freeware tool you can get. It has tons of different algorithms for all types of partitions. Get it with JkDefragGUI. =)
captainforeskin: Okaaay thank you very much for that explanation =D
lbrtdy: Hey jimmy i got a question. The cmd line one seems really useful. BUT is there to make it shut off computer after completion? or say, make a batch file to do so? thanks in advance. Awaiting reply.
limdul: Ibrtdy - yes, there is a way to do it e.g. with a Batch file.
E.g.
start /W JkDefrag.exe
shutdown /s /t 0
but for you I'd be probably easier to just download JkDefragGUI - it's a nice graphical interface for all the options that JkDefrag has. Search it through Google or find it on the JkDefrag Homepage.
limdul: Ah - forgot one thing - the non-cmd version of JkDefrag doesn't exit automatically so the batch file should read either:
start /W JkDefrag.exe -q
shutdown /s /t 0
or
start /W JkDefragCmd.exe
shutdown /s /t 0
^^
lbrtdy: oh ok thx. I'll try it out :) and is it really /s? i thought its shutdown -s?
limdul: Nah, Windows command line parameters usually begin with /, unlike in Unix where they are -something. I guess Jeoren Kessels stuck to the "-" option out of routine. =)
lbrtdy: the batch file works like a charm. :) thanks for the help limdul. although the Gui has more options, most seem overkill for my home computer. :) thanks for help again.
HaloWarsFreak: their is a windows defrag workes the same comes with windows
ladynumberfour4: I recommend Auslogics Disk Defrag too (it's free). It works pretty well.
bazoosh10: yea its like the fastest shyet
KICKERMAN360: O&O Defrag 10 is faster (than standard windows) and does the this feature, it really takes the chore out of Defrag-ing, easiest if you start your PC then walk away and eat, shower, watch TV etc
wataki2: *****Some Guy told me to FIRST turn my VirtualMemory off THEN put my computer in Safemode NEXT run CHKDSK then after that go and put my VM at 640min & 640max THEN restart back in normal mode....Now i cant even say if it worked or not but what if anything would that do for a computer????
omegareport: Turning Virtual Memory off speeds up the computer. Safemode does the same by disabling certain tasks. CHKDSK fixes any errors that might mess up the defrag process (like combining corrupted pieces and making one bigger corrupted piece). VM sets Virtual Memory at a set figure (no minimum or maximum) but I don't know why you'd need to do this if you first turned it off.
Seifersquall10: Auslogics is great. Too bad my free trial ended :(
mattykaye: smartdefrag is better and faster
scutterbear: I downloaded the JKdefrag and ran it yesterday. I even let it run all night. 24 hours later, it was still running. LOL, is this normal??
Granted, the drive I was defragging is 80G and probably hasn't been properly defragged in a long time. The drive is almost completely full. But should it take that long?
jimmyrcom: if you got p2p or other downloading going on it will do it infinitely.
scutterbear: No, I didnt have anything else running. I shut down everything else. I wasn't downloading anything.
It said it was at 100% at 4am this morning. I checked it at 10am and same thing and it was still running.
I am not a computer expert by any means. Pretty much a novice. So I was just wondering if I should have left it running. I dont really know how to tell if it completely did the job.
jimmyrcom: every time it reruns it scans the disk to see if there's any optimizations it can make. you probably just caught it rescanning
scutterbear: Ahh, ok. Thank you. I just subbed to your channel recently and am really enjoying your tutorials.
And thank you for taking the time to answer my comment. Most channel owners dont do that, so it's an added plus and gives me more respect for you.
