Your latency will be different and changing the audio buffer length will also change the latency.

Comments:

NappyAlpha: NICE MAN and just cuz im sayin 3rd woot woot

DarkRoast: LoL great Video! but whats with the squirrel in the middle of this clip? LOL

H2Glitch2007: whats the deal with the squirrels

muxusbxt: Jimmyr is storing up for the winter.

Tophillious: Good tutorial, too bad I don't have any use Audacity.

SonomaDave1: Out of curiosity, why wasn't there latency in the first recording? What did I miss?

jimmyrcom: How could you tell there is or isn't latency until you compare. If there were no latency adjustments needed when I record the second track and say the same thing at the same time it should lineup perfectly.

SonomaDave1: Perhaps I have a little failure to communicate. But what I mean is... will every subsequent trac record have similar latency as the 2nd one? And the 1st one had the same too, only it wasn't detectable since there was nothing to compare it to? Maybe I just answered my own question.

1lalaland: weird i just downloaded this program a the other day

robtran: Thanks again, Jimmy. This is a great help!

bpbrother: He jimmy, i like your videos. They are mostly informative and educational. That's why I subscribed lately, but you do not need to beg for ratings or subscribers. Your videos are good enough and the acknowledgement should not be based on that. Keep up the good work.

jimmyrcom: I'm not begging for ratings or subscribers. People rate the video tons more when I put that intro which helps me get more people watching the video. Also a lot of people don't know what subscribing is.

bpbrother: maybe you should do a tutorial on that one then haha ;)

giulioisopo: Jimmy man i love your videos your help has been invaluable to many including myself but i'm seeing a slight problem with this video. you're not counting the fact that when you start talking in the second recording its not at the exact same moment as you started in the first. even if the latency is perfect its extremely difficult to start talking at the exact same moment for multiple recordings so even if you do this you will be moving your recordings around all the time anyway

jimmyrcom: nope. I try to say at the same time to what I hear in the headphones. Fixing the latency lets me stack as many audio tracks as I want in a "what I hear is what I get" method.

JimmyRcom2: you should tryout hotkey bind or autohotkey. It can automatically write a layout text on keypress, then you can just add the numbers.

HeadDominion: lol i just clicked the audio and dragged to the correct spot before lol

but now yeah i know what's wrong.

jdthegameboy: what is up with you and squirrels

MonkSpacey: Nice one Jimmy, and you used a Red Squirrel!

420sirsmokealot: hey man do some gimp tutorials

Hackiesacker007: I just recently visited your site, and your b-day is in 9 days. Happy Early Birthday! (I'm posting this now, because I know you check your most recent videos)

Keep up the great vids!

zombieszombiesz: awesome, please keep making audacity vids

legoflamb: wow, again so useful!!
keep 'em comming :P

inivonwini: I managed to pause it on the single frame of the squirrel.

AlanHC40: Wow, how many cookies do you want for that?

jussts: So did I... and I want precisely three cookies for it.

insanepanda: love your little "theme song"

great vid, keep it up!

lakercoolman: Awsome vidoe, Very helpful just like the othrs very nice tut on comm on problems latley i ve noticd that in ur vids awomse it is way betrt to use that then time shift , makes it quicker neway thanks cant waint to see next tut keep it up
5 STARS

Terry666Craig: whoa, that's awesome :)))! I thought about something like that, but I didn't know that computers can do this thing too! XD
Thanks!

hurhgnhy: Well done thank you every much. I was just about to ask that question on your Tutorial site. :) Thank again for making my editing A LOT easier.

Kneesoxrock: ...Why is there a cute squirrel?

donney4: You're amazing JimmyR!!! Even though i didn't really watch this video you're still the man!

funkwurm: I just bumped into that problem the other day with Audacity, didn't know it had a manual latency correction.

thanks.

death8796: lol press pause and move the cursur thing to select the time to 2:02 and ull see the squirrul

jack2452: hay jimmy can you make a vid telling us ware we can find free tv show? tv show that are not easy to find.

thisbeadam: im confused with the squirrel thing

TheTutorial: Hey Jimmy I use audacity all the time thanks alot i did have the timeing issue now its gone. You also inspired me to do my own video tutorial s on computers i have been watching your vids since the beginning. Also i use your MP3 search all the time. Very useful. And i like the squirrel thing.

sadfreak4ever: thx dude. by the way, what program do you use to record your desktop?? i use camstudio but urs seems better. pls reply. ty^^

STEVEN3601: thank you keep up the good work

urik: Oooh thanks. And I thought that my rhythm sense sucked when I tried to record Dream Theater - YTSE Jam.
I'm gonna downgrade audacity :\

KujahKalade: So i have a question.

Does that mean the previous version of audacity is better because you dont have to correct latency problems? I hope you read this. =)

rekkolvl80: yo jimmy am trying to edit a song so i can put it in my phone but when i record the part i want from the song and save it it wont apear as an mp3 file do i have to do any setting to fix this? plz read this and comment back

babba5: i dont have that millisecond thing down and i dont get those options in preferences

jimmyrcom: because you don't have the beta version

Domthedude001: Maybe in the released version, the timing will be fixed?

babba5: ok tnx i think i will weit for a stable

co9olTechnics: YES!!!! YES!!!!! i didn't even know you could do this!!!! THANK YOU!

stevenmorrisEP: wow thank you. I like some other people I thought my timing or rhythm sucked. thanks for this video.

cynthiannhurt: it's not working... i have the beta version, but when I open prefs, it is a different layout. there is a place to adjust latency, but it doesn't work.

madmurphy13: For some reason mine's decided to be retarded :S. I have the beta version and if done as you've said in the video only to realise that my latency can be quite drastically different each time i record something, so even though I've dialed in the latency correction my recording can still be either late or even early compared to the origional :S any ideas? cheers

wongsmokesbong: Yea teh Audacity doesn't have very good documentation. This is much better.

Ghakimx: What Soundcard would you recommend for recording stereo? i wanted to get things like the sounds from games but its horrible. Do i use record from microphone or stereo? Please help.

Yemeroth7611: This helped so much. Thank you.

lyricist2: Thank you for solving this issue! Great video but could you try and improve the quality of it! Perhaps by using more proper terms. For instance , "chunks".

sikkony: Very good. Thanks very much for a very good video~~

chaoahkua: "You wont have to adjust the stupid audio anymore"
AHAHAHHA!

anyway thanks for this tut. i had latency problems :[

prammaven: Thank you for posting that, latency is something that's been hurting my music for awhile now.

rekkolvl80: is it possible to silence the voice of a singer in a song so u can only hear the beat of the song by using audacity?

funney61303349: one question why is my audcity silent like i say something in my mic and it sounds so silent

heituzi: Looks like you need to set up your inputs.

amylalaz123: I don't have a length bar at the bottom lol
:(

sadfreak4ever: i can;t see the latency section in preferences... i think mine is a diff version of audacity

jimmyrcom: I start the vid by saying, "the new version of audacity"... get the beta

sadfreak4ever: oh yea, yea.. sry... i realized that afterwards..

donteatcinnabons: i have a question i can't really find an answer for, when i record over an mp3 i can't hear the mp3. my speakers/headphones are on and functioning.

tinecheese: ahhh...okies. That's why! I thought it was my laptop. XD thanks!

Bilbocrat: Quick question: Does your latency change over time? I followed along with this video, and it all worked, but will I never have to change the latency again after I've punched in the correct numbers?

nofagenda: it should probably change every time you record something. you cant have perfect timing every time. the latency could even change in the same track.

nofagenda: this is very helpful. i use audacity for all of my recording and i used to spend most of the editing time trying to line different parts up, and that usually resulted in many tracks for maybe just one verse of vocals.

Yaridovich23: when i record with audacity the sound sounds horrible

guitargodsam: is this porblem in all versions of audacity?

sndmann5: Thanks, this worked for me. Getting rid of the latency actually makes this a viable multitrack program. You should note that you're using the beta version here. The beta is really an improvement, though it did crash on me once so far. Thanks again, for saving me a lot of time.

sndmann5: BTW there are more accurate and quicker ways to check the latency. I used a drum machine.

QsHoney2be: WOW! You have no idea how much time you saved me! Thanks so much for posting!

Delzeriko: Thank you so much! Now I don't have to use the time shift tool. It's been getting on my nerves.

MEBFlorida: Awesome lesson! This is fabulous information because without this knowledge, one is not able to record more than one track and mix them together later. Like record a guitar track and then add a vocal track, then mix them.
Thanks again for the great lesson.

MEBFlorida: Slightly different topic: I sent email to the Audacity developers to request a feature. What do you think of this feature? I would like to be able to swap the right and left channels on a stereo track, or otherwise manipulate the channels (edit, move them in time, etc.) Do you think this would be a good feature? Or is this something that one should never be trying to do?
Thanks again for the awesome lesson!

youpussy9: Error while opening the sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.WTF IS THIS?

fredpikemequon: Great info - thanks! It took me a while to realize you were using the beta version, but I've downloaded that now and will try setting the latency!

omen7: thanks a lot man! I was having problem with a solo.. it just wouldnt play back right.

Turbo852: Very helpful! I was able to fix it right away!

BiscuitsJoe: oh my god!! i was freaking out because i couldn't get the vocals and guitar to sync up while recording, and i was so happy when i saw this. thank you!

negenzevenvijfeen: Thanks alot man! This is what i've been looking for a long time..

capetiger: I imported a backing track to audacity, made a few guitar recordings over it everything was fine, But now my recordings are out of sync with the backing track when i play them back. Is this also a latency problem. How do i get it back in sync?

capetiger: ps, The recording starts off in sync, but gradually gets worse. I removed audacity from my pc and downloaded it once again. Same problem

ZoneIII: My only question is... how do you know you started to record the two tracks at he exact same moment? I just recorded a half dozen tracks while trying to start at exactly the 1 second point and the tracks varied in both directions - both early and late. Since you are adjusting for milliseconds, its important to start recording at precisely the same time. But I don't see how you can do that.
