spacepirate777: Spammers also use software that randomly generates email addresses. I remember reading an article on this some years ago. The article also mentioned what percentage (on average) of the randomly generated email addresses actually ended up being real ones. It was a tiny number, but considering how many they generate, it still amounts to a large amount of addresses.

jimmyrcom: it could be just youtube media server lagging. It could also be the ISP's dns server which makes it beneficial to use opendns. It's meh. I don't use it anymore.

jimmyrcom: you can also create filters in gmail. for example if someone annoying keeps emailing you you can make it filter that forwards it back to them and deletes the email.

fishfishstinkx: I learned recently that Gmail has a few extensions, so when I post my email on websites, I put: myEmail+spam@gmail com. But it makes it inconvenient for the people who want to email me because they have to take out the +spam part manually. Now that I think of it, bots can be smart enough to specifically find +spam and replace it with nothing =S..

reversegecko: Just because goggle ignores the "@" character in search files doesn't mean email collector bots can't look for the @ symbol on websites. Do bots nowadays use google search? In they old days they looked at websites directly.
Secondly if you creatively obfuscate your email address well, very few or perhaps no bot will figure it out regardless.
jimmyrcom: I didn't say email bots can't recognize the @ symbol. And what's goggle? It's a matter of convenience I guess. You could always write your email backwards and no bot will grab it. moc.liamg@aksuryimmj [flipped] but then again whose going to want to flip that.

ZachsMind: Jimmy, you didn't mention whether or not it's valid to click on the spam button in web email like yahoo or gmail. I've been under the impression that reporting spam which slips into the inbox assists yahoo and gmail in improving their spam filtering techniques, but what are your thoughts on that? Does that actually help? Or is my chain being yanked again?
KonFess: Email lists are sold by the owners of email list. The reason companies give free email addresses is so the can have a list of email addresses to sell. When you join a site and verify you email address with that site, this is so they can sell a valid email address. A privacy statement DOES NOT mean they can't sell your email address. There are other ways, but I don't want to start a panic.

but now you are popular so its REALLY RARE that you can find a way NOT to get spam.
but if you just check it and mark "spam" and send it to the "spam" map so there is no more to do. I think its the best way.
