Akagi too is tactical like Death note but without knowing Mahjong it doesn't come across too well, still great though

bajan13k: yeah, Death Note rocks, the graphical novel is out in english already (for a while now), and I think it's been syndicated, in english, on adultswim/cartoon network, but I watched the fansub series in full before.
Also, lots of anime is non-action, and one with both action and plot is Hunter X Hunter. Old and starts slow but it's great.

Singul4r1ty: Couple of years ago I was in the US and I bought a camera which I thought was cheap but you had to pay full price because the advertised price was a rebate price (not very common in europe) but I forgot to mail it in. its a stupid system especially if you are not used to it.

jimmyrcom: check animenewsnetwork for ratings. Deathnote is higher rated based off a bunch of ratings. I hadn't watched the one you mentioned though
xexyzl1: I suppose it depends on which ratings you look at. Right now, Death Note is higher on animenewsnetwork but TTGL is higher on myanimelist. Generally, they both get ratings of about 8.9.
Of course, I could have just been posting a personal bias, since I don't really like Death Note much (it ruined AMV Hell 4 for me, at least)
