jimmyrcom: Make sure you install the official divx codec instead of divx free. When you run the installer make sure divx codec is checked and uncheck divx player / web player / converter / content uploader. Alternatively just google "download ffdshow", install it, then use ffdshow video codec, choose configure and you can select divx.
ttctoonfreak4eva: even so, ffdshow gets errors all the time, why isnt the divx codec not showing in the list, did u do anything besides what your telling us, because i followed every step of all your methods!

NAPREDATOR: Very nice layout and description on this great program, the one thing i don't really agree with though is the quality, when im uploading video's with this program i always have it up to the max capacity's because with windows movie maker you can always just set the quality to something under 100mb so the quality usually doesn't look as bad.
jimmyrcom: just set the bitrate. 256 - 512 is enough for youtube. Youtube makes your video smudged anyway. MovieMaker doesn't make the videos any more clear.

Run the installer from their official website not free codecs dot com. If that doesnt work install ffdshow.

jimmyrcom: choose stereomix instead of microphone on windows sound properties and set the camstudio to record from mic. Set camstudio to fixed region and set the size to whatever you screen resolution is.
archadia17: windows sound properties? Thats the little speaker in bar at the bottom of my screen right? Where MSN icon is? When I go into properties for that i have 2 options,Conexant HD audio input and Conexant Hd audio output, I can't find Stereomix in either of those option windows or whatever.

archadia17: Do you mean I should click region-> fixed region? Then set those to be divisible by 2? but what if I want full screen. And even when I do that for fixed region the video speed is really slow. help
jimmyrcom: your screen resolution should be divisible by 2 anyway. select region and drag the thing across your screen and make sure width and height are divisible by two. Video speed should not be slow. what are you trying to do anyway
archadia17: but I cant record whenever I try it says error creating AVI file, or if I try it fullscreen it says error recording AVI file using currnet compressor. Is something wrong with the DivX compressor?
jimmyrcom: try recording in pcm uncompressed with no options checked and use the same settings as my video. Try recording in 320 x 240 resolution first and make sure that works.
archadia17: pcm? isnt that the audio format? i think theres something wrong with divx, how do I get stereomix by the way? when I go to the speaker in bottom right corner, I cant find it.
jimmyrcom: yeah pcm is a safe audio format to use. some of them seem to give merge errors. I dont know whats wrong with your divx. I've never had a computer without stereomix so I can't say.
archadia17: OMG I still can't get to work I've redone the tutorial and it still doesn't work, what version of DivX are you using? Because I think that the new one(6.6.1) is messed up, Can you show where yo get version of DivX you are using?
archadia17: Do you have any trouble recording fullscreen? It works when I try 320 by 240, but I cant record fullscreen.

My audio works great and i can get it to record full screen. only when i play it back the video is messed up. it flashes all different colors. but i can hear myself just fine. i am using MSU Screen Capture Lossless Codec v1.2 as my compressor. everything else is set up like yours.

jimmyrcom: make sure you have the stereomix checkbox selected when you go to properties in recording options. If you dont have stereomix try selecting some other settings and see if they record

I don't use windows movie maker either I use virtual dub. Ask someone who deals with windows movie maker.

but i've got a solution:
use the Microsoft video1 with jimmys settings.
and then use windows movie maker to make the size of the video smaller. The Audio:
download Audacity (use google to find the site)
and use this to record audio. In Windows movie maker, you can set the video and the sound together. and thats how you do it. should i make a video of how to do it here on YouTube?

jimmyrcom: make sure you restart camstudio =P. Make sure codec is checked in the installer screen and you download divx from divx dot com. Download ffdshow from sourceforge

LeoLabron: You have to enable an option called Autopan.
Go to: <b>Options -> Tick Enable Autopan</b> then go to <b>Options -> Autopan Speed -> 200(max)</b>

LeoLabron: Make sure your video settings follow this:
Divx Configuration:
-Encoding Presets: 1
-Rate Control Mode: 1-pass
-Bitrate: 256
Set Key Frames Every 30 Frames
Capture Frames Every 50milsec
Playback Rate 20 frames/sec
*Uncheck Auto Adjust
Max Framerate
It should work now

That way, you can play the video on your default player after your done recording. It will start automaticly after your done recording.

willabbot: hey leo, just open you video in a program called goldwave. then it will open only the sound. save it, so you have only the sound saved. then import the sound into windows movie maker (or imovie for mac) and drag it into the timeline. then import the video, drag it into the timline, slect it, go to clip>audio>mute. then drag teh audio back and forth so it matches the video. that's my long and complicated solution. :-

i used Microsoft video codec for a 1 minute video, it turned out 14 MB. i then used camstudio lossless codec and that turned out to be 50 MB, both videos were 1 minute and of the same thing

eigio: Also you can record with VirtualDub, it's free and then you can edit your video with it, cut unneeded parts, compress, resize.
jimmyrcom: the autopan on camstudio is a little better, it may seem chalky but it allows for the images to be more clear on slight mouse movements. Virtualdub really is great though.

Just change the mode to ISO Read/Write, select output source, and then click that beautiful green button. Get "DVD Shrink" (google for it), open the disc image where you saved it to, and click "Backup". Set the thing to burn with DVD Decrypter when done (if you want to make a dvd copy) or just save the video file to open as a virtual disc with your favorite dvd player program. Hope that helps.

jimmyrcom: camtasia's autopan is worth balls. It's too slow for small screen areas. Camtasia is also a bit slower loading and bloated. Try virtualdub, it can screen record too. Windows Me version II is a joke.

caesarphilon: Sometimes the divx codec might not show up in camstudio. Many people here asked for a solution. Here it is:
You must have changed your color quality to 16 bit. Change it back to 32 bit. Then close camstudio and start again.
To change your color quality:
1. right click on anywhere on your desktop.
2. choose proerties
3. Change color quality
