glass00: Downloaded YouTube videos do not come in the correct video format. You need to use a file converter so that either program will be able to edit it. Jimmy explains all of this and recommends a great video converter in the video and in the description.

BeechSundowner: Why? See my videos for the product it can produce. Plus, animations are xml formatted, transitions easy to obtain, timing easy to control and so on. Metacreation transitions can be seen in the video Tribute to my Mother. Subtle transitions can be seen in Stairway to Heaven. The only weakness I see in WMM is in audio control, no different on what you demo'ed in your clip.

check out a tutorial link on a video called AviSynth Split Screen Demonstration on baronbliss4 channel. he made that video with VD and a very simple avisynth script. i read thru the tutorial and it sounds very easy to do.

Based on your opinion, which video editor do think is best, at least really good. A video editor that has great effects and transitions. I have two video editoers, Windows Movie Maker and Nero Showtime. But, I'm looking for something a whole lot better.

RosieBaseball: I found the tidbit about Virtual Dub compression default priceless starting around 3:09. I went and downloaded ffdshow and it is a lifesaver. Before viewing this tutorial, I used to get 10GB file size for a 22 min. video. I thought my computer would blow up or something. Thanks for the help.

koobydotnet: Rightio. I'm not trying to start some sort of youtube war here. But I did copy and paste directly from their site. I feel it'd be misleading if someone tried to use it to put multiple video clips together and such.
jimmyrcom: It can as long as the clips bitrate / audio / framerate are the same. What? you expect it to convert stuff for you or it's not a video editor. There's a reason adobe premier is like a gigabyte or more and virtualdub less than 1mb. You can mux clips and audio using avisynth wich virtualdub supports. The proggy is not at all retard friendly but infinitely efficient for those that can read documentation and use forums.

Vierotchka: Awfully complicated and far too technical for the average user. I wish those who design such programs would take into account that most people are not geeks or technicians.
jimmyrcom: virtualdub is one of the programming wonders of the world for efficiency having tons of code written in inline assembly. Virtualdub is 930k, making it stupid-poof would make it like 700mb. Gross. It works fine if you read the documentation / FAQ.
Vierotchka: Problem with most documentation and user manuals, they are written by techies for techies, using techie lingo, leaving the common man completely in the dark. When I bought my first cellphone some ten years or so ago, the user manual's first chapter was entitled "How to understand this manual", but even that chapter was pretty obscure and filled with technical terms that mean nothing to your average user!
Vierotchka: What I actually need is a video editor to assemble my DivX clips, add transitions, add music, transitions, credits and texts. None of my editors accept DivX videos and .avi videos (they will accept the sound/music, but not the actual video).
Vierotchka: Only that horrendous dinosaur Windows Movie Maker will accept .avi, but it is full of bugs, horrendously slow, and a pain in the arse. Is there a video editor as sophisticated as my Vegas Movie Studio Platinum which will accept DivX and .avi video clips that you happen to know of?
jimmyrcom: btw, .divx files are just avi files with the divx codec, just rename them to avi and try again =P.
jimmyrcom: There's no video editors like premier or vegas that are free. To mux video / audio of different formats / sizes / bitrates requires a behemoth filesize program and a lot of programming. jahshaka was an attempt at it but it failed miserably. Technically you can do all of that with avisynth, audacity (for the audio) and virtualdub, vobsub but yeah, you need to live in the forums for a few days nobody's going to spoon feed you how to do everything. It takes a lot of practice.
Vierotchka: I'm willing to buy a good editor, I'm not necessarily looking for a free one. The other alternative is a quality video converter so that I can convert my DivX into formats compatible with my Vegas. If I had the means, I'd buy the latest Mac desktop with a huge screen and get the latest Final Cut Pro along with DivX Pro for Mac. But, alas, my finances are far too modest for such a luxury... :)
jimmyrcom: again, divx files are just avi files with the divx codec. You can rename them avi and they will still work. search jimmyrcom mediacoder on how to convert videos. again though, it's pointless to convert divx to avi, just rename it, it's already in the avi contained.

Vierotchka: You just lost your left testicle. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum does not read .avi video - it reads the audio on .avi video files but not the video. I even wrote to Sony to ask for codecs, they told me they don't have such a codec and don't intend to have one. If you don't believe me, write to them yourself. So sorry about your half-empty scrotum!

During the installation I can see it skipping .dll's and there are a couple error messages strewn in there. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but now the uninstall link doesn't work and I can't get it off from add/remove programs...Help?

Ezekieru: Audacity files are not compatible with VirtualDub. You'll need to export the files as a .mp3.

zodberg: Regarding the program, The code is powerful enough, but the enviroment is completely ambiguous and counterinuitive. The language of the program often skips context.
The video is alright, but going into detail on how to install a program is kind of off, and is a better tutorial for Keepvid than Virtual Dub.

under video conpression look for mirsoft mpeg-4
or look for windows media then go to save as avi but do this videonme.wmv use .wmv at end of video name and that will work 100%

Kinaces: You have to go to save and go to save as movie and save it to your computer. it will take a while but it will put it into a file where you can put it on youtube :)

Kinaces: lol sorry...when you have your movie all done and ready go to file like you were gonna save it. now click on save movie file, then it wwill ask you if you want to send it to email ect. but save it to your computer. Once thats all done it should be in a file that you can put on youtube. This isnt anyless confusing. Maybe i can get a recorder and make a tutorial..
